About Mt. Pleasant Grille
Historic Beginnings…
100 South Main has always been the hub for the Mt. Pleasant community. Initially, the location began has a three-story bank in 1909.
Years later, it was turned into Barnes Drug Store, which was a drug store and café where one could enjoy “lots of milk shakes, malts, ice cream and banana splits.” Doc Barnes, the owner-manager of Barnes Drug Store had a policy that “if you played football, basketball, or whatever sport, and our team won, you got a free milk shake.”
During the 1930’s & 1940’s the upstairs was used for entertaining and featured Grand Ole Opry stars Eddy Arnold, Minnie Pearl, and Roy Acuff among others.
